How to Choose a Wedding Photographer
Your photos are the one thing from your wedding that lasts forever. Here is exactly what to look for before you book.
Picking a wedding photographer is different from picking almost any other vendor — you will spend more time with them on your wedding day than with anyone except your partner. Here is what actually matters when you are comparing photographers.
Any photographer can show you their 20 best images. Ask to see 2–3 complete wedding galleries so you know what consistency looks like across hundreds of real, unposed moments.
Cameras and cards fail. A photographer who shoots with backup bodies, dual card slots, and (ideally) a second shooter protects your day from a single point of failure.
Indoor reception in low light, outdoor ceremony in full Florida sun, beach golden hour — ask if they have shot in similar conditions before, not just similar styles.
Hours of coverage, number of edited images, turnaround time, prints, and albums vary enormously between packages that look similar on price. Get it in writing.
You will be photographed by this person during some of your most emotional, least camera-ready moments. If a conversation with them feels easy, that usually shows up in your photos.
