First Look vs. First Sight

There is no wrong answer — here is how to decide which fits the day you want.

One of the first planning decisions your photographer will ask about is whether you want a private first look before the ceremony, or to see each other for the first time walking down the aisle. Both are great options; they just create a different day.

A private first look

Gives you a quiet, just-the-two-of-you moment before the day gets busy, and lets your photographer capture most couple and wedding party portraits before the ceremony — which usually means you join your cocktail hour instead of missing it, and a shorter list of formals to knock out afterward.

Traditional first sight at the aisle

Keeps that classic, raw reaction reserved for your ceremony walk, in front of your guests. It is more traditional, but means all portraits happen after the ceremony, which can mean less time at your own cocktail hour.

Not sure? Ask yourself: do you want your first reaction to each other private, or witnessed by your guests? There is no wrong choice — tell your photographer your priority and they will build the timeline around it.
